Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has assigned 44 personnel to serve as officers for the Indonesian Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH) during this year’s Hajj season, said a police spokesman.

Of the 44 police personnel, seven are female police officers, Head of the Public Information Bureau, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General. General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, stated.

“The sending of National Police personnel to serve as PPIH officers in Saudi Arabia is proof of the National Police’s commitment to protecting Indonesian Hajj pilgrims,” he said in a press statement published here, Tuesday.

As PPIH officers, these female police personnel help Indonesian Hajj pilgrims who need help, such as those who get lost when they want to return to their hotel or accommodation, he said.

Policewomen also provide information to pilgrims looking for entrances, toilets, places for ablution or ablution, markets, places to eat, ATMs and official money exchange places, he said.

Apart from that, they also accompany Hajj pilgrims who want to enter Raudhah in the Nabawi Mosque area of Medina, help look for lost wheelchairs, and serve sick pilgrims who want to return to their hotels, he added.

Meanwhile, Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas previously said that he and all PPIH officers continued to make maximum efforts to provide services to Indonesian Hajj pilgrims.

For this reason, his ministry continues to coordinate and communicate with Saudi Arabia regarding the provision of Hajj services, he said.

The Saudi Arabian government has set June 7 as the first day of Dzulhijjah 1445 Hijriah. Therefore, Hajj pilgrims will perform wukuf or gather at the Arafah open field on the outskirts of Mecca on June 15.

On June 14, Indonesian Hajj pilgrims will gradually begin leaving their accommodation in Mecca for Arafat, according to the Indonesian Ministry of Religion.

For this year’s Hajj season, Indonesia has secured a congregation quota of 241 thousand people through an agreement reached with the Saudi government on January 8.

This number consists of the initial quota for Hajj pilgrims of 221 thousand people and an additional quota of 20 thousand people approved by the King of Saudi Arabia.

President Joko Widodo obtained this additional quota during a bilateral meeting with Saudi Arabian Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud in October 2023.
