Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA) – Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi has urged the ministry to procure electric vehicles (EVs) for its own use in the capital city of the archipelago (IKN), East Kalimantan.

“I have asked each ministry to procure its own electric vehicles,” he said in Jakarta, Sunday.

Procurement of EVs by each ministry in the government to support vehicle use in the archipelago.

“Of course ministers, echelon I and echelon II officials who work at IKN must use electric vehicles,” said Minister Sumadi.

Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning the National Capital states that public transportation and low-emission mobility must be prioritized in order to create a sustainable city and provide an equitable transportation system for the community.

The main principles of a sustainable and accessible city include the provision of high-quality mass transit as the backbone of all mobility services.

Then, the development of various modes of public transportation in an integrated manner, from strategic routes to long-distance connections, must be easily accessible to all citizens.

The target in the IKN Master Plan is that at least 80 percent of mobility or travel in the archipelago is carried out by public transportation, and 90 percent at high density points.

Furthermore, the master plan also regulates that all residents live within a 10 minute radius of public transportation points, emphasizing the principle of zero emissions in public transportation and private vehicles.

In addition, establishing direct routes and strategic hubs at integration points to support mobility.

Therefore, policies and regulations were created such as large subsidies for public transport users, an integrated payment system for road and rail-based public transport, as well as a planning, management and monitoring framework for the city transport system.
