Changsha, China (ANTARA/Xinhua-AsiaNet)- This year marks the 50th anniversary of the archaeological excavation of the Han Tomb in Mawangdui. The Hunan Museum, together with the China Digital Library and the team of Wang Yuejin, professor at CAMLab, Harvard University, launched “The Art of Living – Immersive Digital Exhibition of Mawangdui Han Dynasty Culture” on June 8, 2024.

Intended to seek ways to advance the deep integration of culture and technology, the exhibition mobilizes academic resources from around the world and uses cutting-edge multimedia technology to showcase the cultural heritage of the Han Tombs at Mawangdui in digital form through a theatrical multimedia experience. offers a glimpse into the essence of early Chinese civilization and artistic achievements. This exhibition presents a holistic display of art, imagination and worldview as reflected by the culture of the Han Tombs at Mawangdui and seeks to create a new paradigm for the digital presentation of cultural heritage with global influence.

The exhibition is organized into three modules: “Time and Space”, “Yin and Yang”, and “Life”. By revealing the dynamic process of “cosmic operation – sublimation of life”, displaying the space structure, various artifacts, cultural ideas and humanistic thoughts of the Han Tomb, as well as revealing the grand imagination and artistic expression of the universe and life by ancient China, this film takes the audience on a “journey across space and time” that can be seen and experienced.

This exhibition provides a multisensory experience to visitors. In the “Yin and Yang” section, the four living chambers contained in the outer four-layer coffin of Tomb One allow visitors to admire the ancient Chinese people’s endless exploration of the mysteries of life and their deep imagination for spiritual sublimation. In the “Life” section, T-shaped silk paintings bring their “glorious moments” to life. Thanks to immersive LED spherical screens, interactive dynamic graphic designs and digital restoration of cultural relics, among other technologies, visitors feel as if they are attending the “from earth to heaven” ceremony depicted in silk paintings. While allowing visitors to experience the transformation and ascension of life, this section also offers a glimpse into the thoughts and emotions of ancient Chinese society 2,000 years ago.

The exhibition remains open to the public until February 16, 2025, with plans to tour around the world.
