Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI), the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN), and a company received an award for installing the most simultaneous birth control implants in women by the National Records Museum (MURI).

MURI Operations Director Yusuf Ngadri said the award was given in recognition of the efforts of IBI, BKKBN and the Ministry of Health in collaborating to exceed government targets in family planning services.

At the 73rd IBI Anniversary event held by IBI in Jakarta, Monday, Ngadri highlighted that these implants were installed in around 117,910 women in 34 provinces.

“This means exceeding the initial target of 110,877 or 6.34 percent,” he said.

Ngadri emphasized that midwives are strategic partners of the BKKBN and the Ministry of Health in efforts to reduce maternal mortality, infant mortality and stunting rates.

Additionally, they support women by assisting them during childbirth, providing assistance to them, and giving them advice during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.

“Midwives as professionals are responsible for carrying out their duties as family planning planners in an accountable manner by providing assistance and education on the health of women’s reproductive organs in an effort to improve the welfare of mothers and children and control births and population,” he explained.

According to Ngadri, this effort aims to create a prosperous family that lives within its means. He said optimizing the use of contraceptives, both via injection and oral, is one way to achieve this goal.

Chairman of the IBI Central Management, Ade Jubaedah, stated that, although it is not their main goal, this MURI award is proof of their dedication and contribution to public services, especially for women.

He explained that implants such as IUDs and other contraceptives will be provided in several health facilities starting May 8 2024.
