Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Immigration Supervision and Enforcement Directorate of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) arrested 103 foreign nationals in Bali on suspicion of abusing immigration permits and committing cyber crimes.

“There are 14 Taiwanese citizens, while the identity of the other one is unknown. “Currently officers are still carrying out investigations,” said Director General of Immigration Silmy Karim in a statement from the immigration directorate received in Jakarta, Thursday.

He explained that hundreds of foreign nationals were arrested during the Becik Bali operation on Wednesday (26/6).

Karim said that the immigration authorities routinely carry out surveillance operations at all immigration offices throughout Indonesia, thus reflecting their commitment to monitoring foreigners in the country.

“Crimes committed by foreigners are one of the criminal acts that we often encounter in the field. “With foreigner surveillance operations like this, Immigration also supports the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force,” he said.

Furthermore, Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement, Safar Muhammad Godam, explained that the Bali Becik operation which arrested 103 foreigners was carried out on Wednesday (26 June) starting at 10 am local time.

He noted that part of the immigration team carried out a closed operation to monitor a villa in Marga District, Tabanan Regency, Bali. At around 14.00 local time, we received information about foreign activity at the location.

“At 17.00 WIB, we managed to arrest 103 foreigners consisting of 12 women and 91 men,” said Godam.

Godam suspects that these foreigners are abusing their residence permits. Apart from that, Immigration is currently investigating alleged cyber crimes they committed based on evidence that has been secured.

“They are suspected of not having documents and abusing immigration permits, and currently the possibility of cyber crime is being investigated based on the number of computers and cellphones found at the scene,” said Godam.

He noted that at around 18.00 WIB, the Bali Becik surveillance operations team arrested all the foreigners and their evidence.

They will undergo examination and be placed temporarily at the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center, Bali.
