Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has added 100 personnel at the immigration checkpoint (TPI) at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) to handle problems related to the crossing system.

“The crossing system at airports and ports cannot yet run normally. “We are adding personnel at immigration checkpoints to deal with this situation,” said Immigration Director General Silmy Karim in a written statement from his office, Friday (21 June).

On the same day, Karim also directly checked the queue and crossing service system at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

The addition of 100 personnel is to overcome the problem of long queues due to problems with immigration services which are affected by disruptions to the National Data Center (PDN) of the Ministry of Communication and Information.

“Immigration counters at all international arrival terminals have been handled by officers. In the near future, we will also add additional counters,” he said.

As of Friday evening, the queue at TPI Soekarno-Hatta Airport was more controlled than Thursday, the first day of PDN disruption. Karim stated that a special route for Hajj pilgrims in the arrival area was also opened to reduce queues.

Meanwhile, immigration checks are still carried out manually. He explained that the officer stamped the passport by writing the date, time, flight number and officer’s initials, as well as the completeness of the documents.

For foreign citizens, their visa number and length of stay are also recorded. Apart from that, Karim ensured that the prohibited passenger system could operate.

“To anticipate the passage of passengers who are on the prohibited list, a passenger analysis unit system has been operating which verifies each passenger using cameras at each immigration counter,” he stressed.

Immigration also provides an additional waiting room of 100 seats for Indonesian citizens and foreign passengers who are placed outside the immigration inspection area to reduce queue build-up during peak hours.

Despite these efforts, Karim said the Ministry of Communication and Information was still trying to overcome problems at PDN.

“The disturbance is still being handled by a team from the ministry. “Immigration is taking steps to improve our services until the system returns to normal,” he said.
