Indonesia and Australia launched a research funding assistance scheme

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian and Australian governments on Friday launched a funding assistance scheme for marine biodiversity sustainability research called the Joint Call BRIN-KONEKSI.

Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Lakasana Tri Handoko stated at the launch event that his party was open to collaborating with global funding institutions to support research activities.

“This research funding scheme will run for the next five years,” he said in Jakarta.

Through this scheme, universities, research organizations, government organizations, non-government organizations and private actors can obtain maximum funding of IDR 1 billion (US$61.1 thousand) for each research project related to health, food and energy, apart from marine. biodiversity.

“The research topic prioritized in this program (scheme) is marine biodiversity, considering that Indonesia and Australia have the same maritime border,” he said.

Apart from increasing funding allocation for research and innovation activities, he emphasized that the scheme also aims to intensify collaboration and interaction between Indonesian researchers and international partners.

Handoko emphasized that science, research and innovation are universal commodities that require countries to interact with each other to increase their competitiveness at the global level.

The official further noted that this funding scheme also targets enhancing the strategic relations fostered between Indonesia and Australia through partnerships between research institutions of the two countries.

Meanwhile, Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams said that the two countries had made efforts to further strengthen relations between communities and partnerships between institutions to realize inclusive, innovative and sustainable development.

He also expressed his hope that relations between researchers and doctoral students from Indonesia and Australia would increase.
