Jakarta (ANTARA) – A number of officials from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and other ministries are exploring cooperation on online gambling and eradicating online fraud with the Cambodian government this week.

Assistant Deputy for Coordination of Asian, Pacific and African Cooperation at the Coordinating Ministry, Nur Rokhmah Hidayah, led the Indonesian delegation’s five-day visit to Cambodia from Tuesday (11 June 2024) to Saturday (15 June).

The Indonesian delegation met with several important officials from the Cambodian Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCT), the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Cambodian National Police.

In a meeting with Cambodian officials, Hidayah noted that so far the two countries had cooperated well in handling several criminal cases of trafficking in persons (TIP), especially those involving Indonesian citizens in Cambodia.

“This cooperation needs to continue to be improved, especially in the aspect of providing protection for Indonesian citizens who work and live in Cambodia,” he said, in an official statement released here, Saturday.

On this occasion, the Indonesian delegation also offered capacity building cooperation to the National Police and NCCT.

The training is planned to be carried out at the end of September 2024 and covers several aspects such as identification of TIP cases, case detection, investigation, and procedures for protecting TIP victims.

Hidayah said the Cambodian government welcomed the offer.

According to the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, there has been a sharp increase in cases of Indonesian citizens trapped in Cambodian online gambling and fraud networks, namely from 15 cases in 2020 to 1,386 cases in 2023.

Of the 1,386 cases in 2023, 544 cases involved online gambling and 842 cases related to online fraud.
