Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia and Turkey discussed the potential for increasing cooperation in the manufacturing sector to take advantage of their high-value manufacturing industry.

“Indonesia and Turkey have manufacturing industries that are growing rapidly and offer many opportunities for cooperation,” said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta, Friday.

He explained his meeting with Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir and a number of business actors during his visit to Istanbul and Ankara on June 4-5.

The meeting made it clear that Indonesia and Turkey still have cooperation opportunities that can be exploited, especially in the fields of electric vehicles (EV), halal products and the defense industry, he said.

Regarding the electric vehicle industry, he noted that the Indonesian government has invited Turkish electric vehicle manufacturers to partner and invest in Indonesia, where they can enjoy various incentives.

Currently, the incentives offered by Indonesia include exemption from import duties and luxury goods sales tax on imports of electric vehicles in certain volumes.

Regarding the potential for cooperation in halal products, the Minister of Finance said that Indonesia is ready to support Turkey in its journey to become a global center for halal product production.

“The capabilities of Türkiye’s food and beverage industry are quite good,” he said.

According to Kartasasmita, Türkiye has the potential to become a production hub for halal products that will be distributed throughout the world.

“Indonesia will support Türkiye to invest more in the halal industry,” he said.

He also asked for Turkey’s support in the process of Indonesia’s entry into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

He said that Türkiye’s strong influence in the OECD could help Indonesia complete its membership within three years.
