Jakarta (ANTARA) – Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah called for special attention to the conditions of workers in Palestine and highlighted the importance of international support to overcome the challenges they face at the International Labor Organization (ILO) meeting.

Fauziyah praised the ILO Director General’s report describing the plight of workers in Palestine, according to a statement released by his office on Friday.

He said the report clearly shows the scale of destruction and hardship experienced by the Palestinian people, especially workers.

“We agree that all efforts to alleviate their suffering must begin with the cessation of hostilities,” Fauziyah said in his speech at the 112th International Labor Conference (ILC) in Geneva, Switzerland, Thursday, as quoted in the statement.

Stopping the invasion and providing unimpeded access to emergency aid are important steps, he stressed.

“We call on the international community to stop double standards in dealing with this issue and actively fight for social justice in Gaza,” he said in his speech.

Fauziyah emphasized the importance of stronger political support for the recognition of a Palestinian state and encouraging a peace process under the auspices of the UN.

He said that realizing Palestinian independence was the only way to achieve sustainable peace. In particular, he called for a commitment to uphold international law to protect civilians in occupied territories.

He also underlined the importance of implementing the Palestinian National Employment Strategy 2021-2025, which was designed jointly with the ILO. This strategy aims to provide decent work opportunities, improve social protection, and strengthen labor market governance.

“We urge the expansion of social protection measures and support for unemployed workers and victims of war in the occupied territories,” Fauziyah said.

At the end of his speech, Fauziyah called for global cooperation to ensure the success of the recovery and reconstruction phase in Palestine.

He also urged the ILO to partner with other UN agencies, including UNRWA, to ensure the distribution of aid and development programs is right on target.
