Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Environment and Forestry is increasingly monitoring and taking action against activities that can cause air pollution in the Jabodetabek (Jabodetabek) area, including by identifying 230 companies to monitor.

Ratio Ridho Sani, the Ministry’s Director General of Law Enforcement, said on Thursday that the air pollution control task force had identified the source of air pollution in Jabodetabek following a recent decline in air quality.

“We have identified 230 locations that contribute to the decline in Jakarta’s air quality originating from industrial or business activities,” he said.

This year, the Ministry carried out special supervision of eight companies in Jabodetabek. Environmental monitoring officers suspended operations at the three companies due to violations related to air pollution control.

The Ministry monitors air conditions in Jabodetabek through 15 Air Quality Monitoring System (AQMS) points to identify areas where air quality is decreasing.

Industries in the area will be the target of supervision and law enforcement if they are proven to have committed violations related to air pollution control.

On the same occasion, the Ministry’s Director of Complaints Supervision and Administrative Sanctions, Ardyanto Nugroho, said that supervision was also carried out on companies that received red PROPER (Environmental Compliance Public Information Disclosure Program) warnings three times in a row.

Red PROPER is given by the ministry to companies that carry out environmental management but have not achieved the results regulated in statutory regulations.

“If there are public complaints about air pollution caused by a company, we will also monitor it,” he added.

Nugroho said the ministry would also carry out environmental patrols around industrial areas as part of efforts to reduce air pollution in Jabodetabek.
