Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that Indonesia’s inflation rate in May 2024 of 2.84 percent is one of the world’s best achievements.

Jokowi made this statement when opening the 2024 National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) for Inflation Control at the State Palace Building, Jakarta, Friday.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the inflation control team who worked hard and achieved an inflation rate of 2.84 percent in May. “This is one of the best in the world,” said the President.

According to Jokowi, the current inflation situation in the country is relatively better compared to a decade ago, which was recorded at 9.6 percent.

During the meeting, the President also reminded all regional policy makers that inflation is a serious problem that requires attention and action.

He then appreciated the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian who had opened an inflation information system throughout Indonesia.

“Every week Minister Karnavian checks the inflation rate in each province, city and district one by one. “The numbers are announced for everyone to know,” said the President.

Moreover, during every working visit to a region, Jokowi also often evaluates the inflation situation in the region.

“Every time I visit a region, I always ask the mayor or regent about inflation and economic growth. “I always ask about these questions, so that we always pay attention to important things,” said the President.

He highlighted that the national economy was in good condition with an inflation rate of 2.84 percent and economic growth of 5.11 percent.

“These figures are refreshing. However, we must remain vigilant, careful, and must not be careless. “The challenges ahead will not be easy,” he said.

The National Coordination Meeting agenda was attended physically by all governors throughout Indonesia, while mayors and regents attended virtually.
