Jakarta (ANTARA) – As of Sunday, the Istiqlal Grand Mosque, Central Jakarta, had received at least 44 sacrificial animals from Muslims to be slaughtered after Eid al-Adha prayers on Monday, said mosque spokesman, Ismail Cawidu.

Qurban is a religious sacrifice in the form of a cow, goat or sheep carried out after the Eid al-Adha prayer to commemorate the sacrifice of the Prophet Ibrahim to his beloved son for the sake of Allah.

This mosque has also received assistance from Simmental cattle from President Joko Widodo and Limousin cattle from Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.
The weight of Simmental cattle was recorded at around 1,192 kilograms, while the weight of Limousin reached around 1,164 kilograms, Cawidu told ANTARA here, Sunday.

Regarding Eid al-Adha prayers, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, several cabinet members and foreign ambassadors in Jakarta are scheduled to perform prayers at the Istiqlal Grand Mosque.

“The Eid al-Adha congregational prayer is planned to start at 07.00 WIB,” said Cawidu, adding that Martomo Malaing will lead the Eid al-Adha congregational prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque, while Professor Amien Suyitno will deliver the sermon.

As previously reported, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) celebrated Eid al-Adha this year in Central Java.

According to Deputy Mayor of Solo Teguh Prakosa, President Jokowi is scheduled to hold Eid al-Adha congregational prayers at the Grand Mosque of Central Java (MAJT) Semarang.

MAJT representative, Noor Achmad, said that the President’s plan to visit the mosque was enthusiastically welcomed by the MAJT congregation and the residents of Central Java.

After the prayer, the Head of State will hand over the sacrificial cow weighing 1.23 tonnes to the mosque management for the Qurbani service.

Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono previously said that President Jokowi plans to provide 68 sacrificial cows which will be donated to 38 provinces, the new capital of the archipelago, the Istiqlal Mosque, and the mosque where he will carry out Eid al-Adha prayers.
