Jakarta (ANTARA) – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and Chair of the Online Gambling Task Force, Hadi Tjahjanto, said that online gambling players come from various professions, such as police, soldiers, journalists and civil servants.

“We have submitted the names within the ministry, TNI and Polri to the heads of the institutions,” he said after attending the Online Gambling Prevention coordination meeting, Tuesday.

In particular, Tjahjanto highlighted online gamblers who have professional journalism backgrounds. Based on data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), it is known that 168 journalists are involved in online gambling.

He noted that the value of online gambling transactions in this profession reached IDR 1 billion (US$59 thousand).

Based on PPATK data, the number of transactions reached 6,899 transactions with a value of IDR 1,477 billion (US$ 87 thousand). “We already have a list of names,” he said.

The Minister of Finance noted that the task force he leads continues to make various efforts to eradicate online gambling. His party has arrested an internet celebrity from Banten who promotes online gambling.

“Moreover, we succeeded in uncovering (and dismantling) three online gambling sites named 1EWNXBET, W88, and Liga Ciputra, which was followed by the arrest of 18 suspects in three disclosures,” said Tjahjanto.

Of the various efforts made, the task force focused on saving the community by revealing the names of the parties involved.

“The important thing is to save the Indonesian people (from online gambling),” stressed the Minister of Finance.

On the same occasion, the Minister of Communication and Information and Daily Chair of the Task Force, Budi Arie Setiadi, said that he also discovered that several of his employees were practicing online gambling.

“On Thursday, we will announce the number of employees of the Ministry of Communication and Information who were caught in online gambling practices,” he said.
