Surabaya (ANTARA) – General Manager of PLN’s East Java Distribution Main Unit, Agus Kuswardoyo, addressed the state-owned electricity company’s initiative in achieving the energy transition and net-zero emissions (NZE) by 2060.

“These efforts include short-term and long-term plans, as well as the development of renewable energy and its supporting ecosystem,” he said while giving a lecture at the University of 17 August 1945 (Untag) in Surabaya, East Java, Tuesday.

Kuswardoyo emphasized that PLN’s strategic approach focuses on greening electricity supply, decarbonizing fossil fuel power plants, and developing new renewable energy sources.

He highlighted the importance of balancing electricity supply reliability, affordability and environmental sustainability in achieving NZE 2060.

“Furthermore, PLN’s commitment is not only at the corporate level, namely fostering collaboration with stakeholders, including regional governments,” he added.

Collaboration and synergy with various parties continues to be built as an effort to accelerate the energy transition process, including electricity generation on remote islands.

PLN aims to increase solar power generation capacity by 2027 to eliminate dependence on diesel power in the future. Apart from that, the company has also prepared infrastructure to support the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem by installing hundreds of public charging stations.

During the event, PLN’s East Java Main Distribution Unit handed over a grant of equipment to equip the Untag electricity distribution system laboratory, as a form of their support for the world of education.

Untag Deputy Chancellor Harjo Seputro expressed his appreciation for PLN’s support in sharing knowledge and providing equipment.

“PLN is here to share insights about the electricity industry, and what is no less important is donating equipment for the electricity distribution laboratory,” he stressed.

He emphasized that these lectures can improve students’ competencies, knowledge, skills, views and experiences.
