Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto met with Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein and discussed the humanitarian crisis currently occurring in Gaza, Palestine.

During the meeting, Prabowo stated that Jordan is currently Indonesia’s most active partner in jointly fighting for the independence of the Palestinian people, especially considering the threat of Israeli military aggression in Gaza.

“The Indonesian government is also continuing to monitor the worsening developments in Gaza,” he told King Abdullah II during a meeting in Amman, Jordan, Monday (10 June), as quoted from his office’s official statement, Tuesday.

Moreover, Indonesia is concerned about the current crisis, especially seeing the number of victims which continues to increase every day, said the Minister of Finance.

King Abdullah II then agreed with Prabowo and thanked him for his presence at the summit on Gaza in Amman, Jordan, on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Prabowo is scheduled to represent Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The summit was held on the initiative of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi, King Abdullah II, and UN Secretary General Antonio Gutteres.

“This conference was held in connection with the call for a ceasefire in Gaza so that heads of state can identify ways to strengthen the international community’s response to the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Gaza,” said the Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Secretariat General of the Secretariat General. This was stated by the Indonesian Ministry of Defense Brigadier General Edwin Adrian Sumantha, Tuesday .

This summit raised the theme “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza.”

It is hoped that Indonesia’s presence at this summit will make a real contribution to joint efforts to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, said Sumantha.

On a separate occasion, Prabowo said he planned to make the most of the summit to offer assistance from Indonesia, including peacekeepers, field hospitals and health workers, as well as support for the evacuation of victims.

“I will coordinate with the UN Secretariat General and leaders of regional countries so that our aid can be distributed,” he said on June 7.

He also emphasized Indonesia’s position regarding resolving the conflict in Gaza must be carried out with a ceasefire and negotiations.

“Indonesia supports the independence of the Palestinian people, supports a two-state solution, and supports all efforts for an immediate ceasefire,” he stressed.

At the summit in Jordan, several countries, including Australia, sent representatives to sit together to discuss a ceasefire strategy in Gaza.

Pope Francis from the Vatican also expressed his support for the summit in Jordan. He thanked the Egyptian President, the King of Jordan and the UN Secretary General for their ideas and called the summit an “important initiative.” (INE)
