Improving the quality of Hajj implementation aims to ensure that Indonesian Hajj pilgrims can perform the Hajj pilgrimage optimally.

Jakarta (ANTARA) –

Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas said the government had made a number of improvements so that the current Hajj season would give a positive impression to Indonesian Hajj pilgrims.

“All improvements to the quality of Hajj implementation are to ensure that Indonesian Hajj pilgrims can perform the Hajj pilgrimage optimally,” said Qoumas to Indonesian Hajj organizers in the Arafat Plain, east of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, in a statement received in Jakarta, Saturday.

Pilgrims will move for several days from Mecca to the Plains of Arafat to perform their worship wuquf (obligatory stay at Arafat during the Hajj) — which is considered the main ritual of the Hajj — before Eid al-Adha on June 16, 2024.

“These improvements were made based on an evaluation of previous Hajj implementation which covered all aspects, including management, finance, service quality and accountability,” said Qoumas.

He emphasized that Hajj services have been carefully regulated by prioritizing risk mitigation efforts and considering input from Indonesian ulama to ensure compliance with Islamic law.

Improvements to the pre-departure aspect, he said, include faster immigration services for Hajj pilgrims departing from Jakarta, Surakarta and Surabaya, as well as more varied and intensive pre-Hajj training for pilgrims.

The Minister of Finance emphasized that improving catering services through the use of recipes, chefs and typical Indonesian food ingredients makes the food served to Indonesian Hajj pilgrims more delicious.

“This also has a positive impact on Indonesian exports and helps develop a prospective Hajj economic ecosystem,” added Qoumas.

Improving service arrangements for pilgrims will also enable Indonesian Hajj organizers to serve up to 45 thousand elderly and disabled pilgrims this year.

Apart from helping vulnerable pilgrims complete their Hajj pilgrimage, this is also in line with the “Elderly Friendly Hajj” mission promoted by Indonesian Hajj organizers, he said.

“We express our gratitude for the commitment and hard work of Hajj organizers who are tireless in serving Indonesian Hajj pilgrims,” he added.

For this year’s Hajj season, Indonesia received a Hajj quota of 241 thousand consisting of 213,320 regular Hajj pilgrims and 27,680 special Hajj pilgrims.
