Jakarta (ANTARA) – Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga highlighted the importance of synergy among all parties in fighting sexual violence against women and children, including in higher education environments.

“We urge all stakeholders, including campuses, to synergize and collaborate in the best interests of the victims and provide a deterrent effect to the perpetrators,” he said in a statement issued by his ministry in Jakarta, Thursday.

He also invited the younger generation to care about fighting sexual violence – which he said was an iceberg phenomenon – and dare to speak out against it.

Based on the National Survey on the Life Experience of Women (SPPHN) and the National Survey on the Life Experience of Children and Adolescents (SNPHAR), the incidence of violence against women and children shows a decreasing trend.

In the period 2018 to 2021, violence against children fell by around 16 to 25 percent, while violence against women decreased from 9.4 percent to 8.7 percent in 2021.

“However, the number of cases revealed has actually increased. “This is due to the existence of stronger regulations and policies to protect victims, as well as victims becoming more courageous in reporting and society starting to open up to this problem,” he said. explain.

Based on data from the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, factors causing sexual violence in higher education include power relations.

He noted that victims often face stigma so that cases of sexual violence are often hidden.

“This shows that there was an error in handling. “We encourage all parties to dare to speak out and provide justice to the victims in order to provide a deterrent effect to the perpetrators,” said the Minister of Finance.
