The government uses a nutrition reporting application to increase the validity of stunting data

We will triangulate the results of the Indonesian Health System survey with the EPP-GBM results which are now being carried out simultaneously.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The government uses the Electronic Community-Based Nutrition Recording and Reporting Application (EPP-GBM) for triangulation to increase data validity to support efforts to prevent stunting in Indonesia. This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy after a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday.

“We will triangulate the results of the Indonesian Health System survey with the EPP-GBM results which are now being carried out simultaneously,” said Effendy.

He said, EPP-GBM is a community-based recording and reporting mechanism that uses electronic technology. This mechanism has been implemented simultaneously in 330,881 posyandu (Integrated Healthcare Center) in Indonesia since June as part of Toddler Weighing Month.

According to him, this activity targets 90 percent of toddlers and pregnant women with the assistance of trained personnel who monitor their nutrition so that a valid picture of the current stunting situation in Indonesia is obtained.

“The data must be valid because we have carried out massive acceleration to standardize measuring and weighing or anthropometric tools. “Continue with the provision of ultrasound equipment in 90 percent of health centers to check pregnancy,” he said.

The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia was recorded at 37 percent in 2014. This figure has been reduced to 21 percent of the total population of children under five in the last 9 years.

However, in 2023, the reduction in stunting will be relatively small, namely 0.1 percent.

Effendy said that it is hoped that the EPP-GBM data can be used as a comparison with the Indonesian Health System (SKI) census, thereby helping to increase the validity of the data obtained by the government.

“EPP-GBM and SKI are from the Ministry of Health. “Therefore, we can look at the differences in data to find out which one is more accountable,” he explained.

The Minister of Finance hopes that the EPP-GBM method can increase the accuracy of stunting data and thus help align government policies in alleviating stunting.

“If the numbers are wrong then the intervention is wrongly targeted. “If the numbers are close to correct then the intervention is right on target,” he added.
