Jakarta (ANTARA) –

Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi on Thursday outlined several strategic programs that have been completed in 2023 and 2024 to accelerate equitable development of digital infrastructure.

“In terms of digital infrastructure, the Ministry has implemented several programs, the first of which is the digitalization of national television broadcasts through Analog Switch-Off (ASO),” he said in a press statement received here.

The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) is migrating analog television broadcasts to digital by distributing set-top boxes to more than 1.3 million poor households.

Then, there is the 4G Mobile Broadband Service Provision Program which involves the construction of a base transceiver station (BTS).

BTS construction has been completed in 6,672 locations, and President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the operation of 4G BTS for frontier, outermost and disadvantaged (3T) areas in Talaud, North Sulawesi, last year.

Kominfo is also trying to boost utilization of the Palapa Ring backbone network, which is now fully operational.

Palapa Ring utilization in 57 cities/districts has reached 57 percent for service level agreement (SLA) services, and 100 percent for operational services through public-private collaboration.

Minister Setiadi also listed other infrastructure development ecosystems that have been realized, such as the Indonesia Digital Test House, an international equipment testing center with a radio frequency spectrum of 1,720 Mhz.

“In May (2024), the President launched an international device testing center, namely the Indonesia Digital Test House (IDTH). “There is also a Radio Frequency Spectrum (SFR) of 1,720 Mhz,” he said.

He said his ministry was preparing a policy regarding its use.

The Ministry has also built national data centers (PDN) in Cikarang, West Java, and Batam, Riau Islands, to support national data consolidation.
