Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Agriculture has prepared 55 Young Agricultural Ambassadors (YAA) who are expected to be able to become a driving force for farmer regeneration efforts in Indonesia. Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman in his statement in Jakarta, Monday, stated that he would fully support all activities carried out by young farmers to advance agriculture, as well as various programs that support the optimization of food production in Indonesia.

“The program to increase food production requires the involvement of various parties, from relevant stakeholders to young farmers,” he added.

Meanwhile, Head of the Agricultural Extension and Human Resources Development Agency (BPPSDMP), Dedi Nursyamsi, said that the YYA program is expected to encourage the younger generation to actively participate in improving Indonesia’s food sector.

“This encourages young farmers to advance and invite other young generations to get involved in the agricultural sector,” he added.

Nursyamsi also appreciated the younger generation who want to work in the agricultural sector and play a role in national agricultural development.

The selection of Youth Agricultural Ambassadors is part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Youth Entrepreneur and Employment Support Services (YESS) Program.

This program invites the young generation who have been successful in the agricultural sector to help promote this sector to other young generations.

The YESS program is a collaborative effort by the Ministry of Agriculture and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to encourage young farmers to be more active in advancing Indonesian agriculture.

A total of 55 young farmers were selected to become ambassadors for the YESS 2024 program based on gender equality and physical limitations. They come from different socio-economic backgrounds.

This program is designed to identify young farmers who can be role models for the younger generation and attract them to the agricultural sector by changing the image of farming from an unattractive profession to a profitable one. (INE)
