Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs is overseeing the third round of negotiations on a mutual legal assistance (MLA) agreement in criminal cases with Poland.

His party also supervised the first round of extradition treaty negotiations between Indonesia and Poland.

Assistant Deputy for International Law Coordination at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Brigadier General Arudji Anwar, said that his party was involved in the two negotiations to ensure that the contents of the MLA agreement and extradition were in accordance with the laws of the two countries and international law.

Anwar, representing the Deputy Ministry for Legal and Human Rights Coordination, joined other ministry officials in negotiating the MLA agreement and extradition on June 10-15, 2024, in Warsaw, Poland.

“The ministry’s role in these negotiations is to oversee and ensure that the substance of the MLA agreement and extradition is in accordance with the national laws of the two countries and international law. “We hope that the agreement in the future can be implemented to eradicate transnational crime,” he said in a statement issued from his office, Tuesday.

According to him, MLA cooperation in criminal cases and extradition is a concrete form of commitment between the two countries in fighting cross-border crimes, such as human smuggling, human trafficking, drug trafficking, money laundering, fraud using the internet/online fraud networks. , and online gambling.

In the third round of MLA agreement negotiations, the two countries agreed on the final draft of the contents of the agreement.

Meanwhile, in the first round of extradition negotiations, the delegations of the two countries fully understood the legal basis for their respective extradition practices, he said.

MLA negotiations between Indonesia and Poland began in January 2023 in Warsaw and continued in Bali on 24-25 May 2023. Both countries agreed to include several issues in the framework of the agreement, such as regarding personal data protection and legal assistance. which can be provided reciprocally by Indonesia and Poland.

In the last round of negotiations, the Indonesian government was represented by officials from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs; Prosecutor’s Office; National Police; and the Corruption Eradication Committee.

If the MLA agreement is completed, Poland will be the first country in the European Union to collaborate with Indonesia.
