Jakarta (ANTARA) – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin appreciated the Saudi Arabian government’s consistency in improving services for Hajj pilgrims.

Amin conveyed this praise during an interview with Al Arabiya News Channel on May 7 which was broadcast on his secretariat’s YouTube channel.

“I appreciate the Government of Saudi Arabia for giving us an additional quota for pilgrims this year and preparing good services, including a fast visa issuance process,” he said in a press release quoted in Jakarta, Saturday.

However, the Vice President highlighted the fact that Indonesia still needs a larger quota because some prospective Hajj pilgrims have to wait decades to finally be able to perform the Hajj.

“Increasing the quota will cut waiting times, even if only by a few years,” he said.

Amin also praised the good coordination between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, and noted that the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah had acknowledged Indonesia’s ability to manage the handling of its pilgrims.

“We still have room for improvement because the Hajj is a matter of transporting (a number of) people in a short time. I am sure we are still facing new problems. Therefore, we need to try to prevent such things from appearing. problem next year,” he stressed.

The Vice President then highlighted Medina and praised the holy city’s rapid progress in developing infrastructure and facilities to support the Hajj pilgrimage.

“In my opinion, Medina’s development is among the fastest in the world. “This city continues to improve, including by building more hotels, which ultimately provides a higher level of comfort for pilgrims,” he stressed.

Amin also praised the efficient and well-managed air transportation services offered by the airports in Madinah and Jeddah which are able to handle plane landings every five minutes.

“Serving large numbers of Hajj pilgrims is not an easy matter. “Therefore, we should give a thumbs up to the government of Saudi Arabia which consistently improves Hajj services every year,” he concluded.
